In the live-action short film category, the film Bittu has been shortlisted in the top 10 films. At the same time, in the feature film Foreign Language category, India's official film Jallikattu is disappointed.
India's official entry 'Jallikattu' is out of the race for an international feature film for Oscars (2021) but the country is still competing in the short film category with its short film 'Bittu'.
In the live-action short film category, the film Bittu has been shortlisted in the top 10 films. The Malayalam film Jallikattu directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery did not feature in the final list of 15 films to compete.
The story of the film Bittu is based on a true incident, showing the friendship between two girls. The final nomination for the Academy Award will be announced on 15 March.
Ashutosh Gowariker's Lagaan made it to the last five in the Best International Film category in the year 2001 from India. Before that, two Indian films 'Mother India' (1958) and 'Salaam Bombay' (1989) reached the list of the last five films.
- 'Jallikattu' was performed on 06 September 2019 at the Toronto International Film Festival and was highly appreciated by the people there.
- Jallikattu is a film based on Harish's story and starring Antony Varghese, Chamban Vinod Jose, Sabuman Abdusamad and Santi Balachandran.
