Health & Family Welfare Department has created wide network of health and medical care facilities in the state to provide primary, secondary and tertiary health care at the door step of every citizen of Gujarat with prime focus on BPL families and weaker sections in rural/urban slum areas. Department also takes appropriate actions to create adequate educational facilities for medical and paramedical manpower in the state of Gujarat

The Department essentially works on promoting Good Health related to Mind, Body and Soul. It functions on various aspects with a concern for quality and access to health care services. The Department handles administrative‚ monitoring and delivery mechanisms from primary to advance level‚ including Urban Family Welfare Centre (UFWC) of municipal corporations and corporation hospitals. It formulates various Initiatives like the Chiranjeevi Yojana, Nirogi Bal Varsh‚ Bal Sakha Yojna‚ anti drug campaigns, etc. with upgrades on Quality Healthcare Infrastructure. Health‚ medical‚ family welfare‚ food and drug control‚ ayurvedic and homeopathy‚ Health Insurance schemes‚ marriage registration‚ family planning‚ etc are all chapters covered up by the department.
