Mamta Banerjee launches 'Maa' (Mother) scheme to provide food for 5 rupees
Recently the West Bengal government started a "Maa" canteen to provide subsidized cooked food to the poor and destitute at a nominal cost of ₹ 5. The government will give a subsidy of ₹ 15 and people will have to pay ₹ 5. The kitchen will be run by the Self Help Group (SHG). The government allocated ₹ 100 crores for the project.
About the 'Maa' canteen:
The canteen will be open from 1 to 3 pm every day. People will get rice, lentils, a vegetable and egg curry. This new initiative is for the common people. Although we provide free rations, there is still a huge demand for cooked food. Therefore, we are starting this community kitchen.
